The Coracle Society is a national organisation, based in the United Kingdom, with an international reach. Founded in 1990, the aims of the Society are to "promote the use and knowledge of coracles, curraghs and allied craft".
This website marks a step forward for the Society, giving it a truely international presence. The Society is undergoing a regeneration - a redevelopment of it's magazine "The Society Journal" is taking place, and the establishment of it's own, independent, official website is a fundamental part to bringing the Society forward to the 21st Century. The Coracle Society celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2010.
The website, which went live in March 2009, is the first of a two stage project for bringing the Society to the online community. News, noticeboard, events listings and online payments for membership fees allow members to be more involved with the society and its members. The final stage of the project will be the development of an online archive of coracles, curraghs and their uses throughout the centuries.
