The Coracle Society

The Coracle Society is a national organisation, based in the United Kingdom, with an international reach. Founded in 1990, the aims of the Society are to "promote the use and knowledge of coracles, curraghs and allied craft". One of my websites, the World of Coracles, is a member of The Coracle Society.
This website marks a step forward for the Society. For many years, the Society has shared space with sites owned by members. The Society is undergoing a regeneration - a redevelopment of it's magazine "The Society Journal" is taking place, and the establishment of it's own, independent, official website is a fundamental part to bringing the Society forward to the 21st Century.
The website, which went live in March 2009, is the first of a two stage project for bringing the Society to the online community. This site is completely sponsored, designed and maintained by euan raffel | freelance website designer, and for the time being the basis of it is to give the Society a presence on the internet. The site contains features such as a brief history, membership information (with an electronic payments system coming soon), an extensive events and web links database, safety information as well as contact details. In addition to this, behind the scenes there is an extranet, giving qualified members access to a log of updates, direct feedback to the webmaster, as well as access to the email and contacts systems, powered by Google Apps.
In the future it is hoped, with Lottery funding, to progress onto stage two of the web project, which will provide a CMS driven website, giving members the ability to directly contribute to the website. In addition, a forum will be set up to allow both members and non-members discuss coracles and related discussions.
